Abia LG Polls: Look into Deputy Gov’s Interference in Ohafor Ward Politics, Mba Nwoko Begs Otti

The member representing Ohafia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Kalu Mba-Nwoke, has called on Governor Alex Otti to intervene in the impending political crisis in Ohafor Ward in Azaga, Ohafia LGA of Abia State arising from the Ward election to avert a repetition of the Rivers crisis.

Mba-Nwoke, who made the call on Wednesday while addressing newsmen, said it has become imperative for the State Governor to caution his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, whom he accused of supporting a candidate who attacked LP members during the 2023 general election.

He revealed that the Deputy Governor has succeeded in imposing a former PDP member, “Ochendo”, who joined the LP not long ago to run for Councilorship of Ohafor Ward, insisting that this is already causing disaffection among loyal LP members in Ohafor Ward and the entire Azaga Ohafia.

The Abia Lawmaker prayed to Governor Alex Otti, to listen to them by addressing the issue, saying that there is already a candidate who emerged through the primaries and is eligible to fly the flag of the party during the November 2nd LG election. He stressed that the deputy Governor is spitting on him as a member of the State Assembly and other stakeholders in the ward, saying this could mar the chances of the party in the coming November 2nd LG polls if not addressed now.

He insisted that the influence exerted by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu in Ohafor Ward, will be an impediment to the slogan, “Operation Deliver Your Ward”, maintaining that the people have their own candidate, condemning the actions of the number two citizen of Abia State.

Speaking on the chances of the party ahead the LG elections, Mba Nwoko stated that the party is battle ready for the LG election across the 17 LGAs of the State, adding that as a realist, he believes that the party will emerge victorious in the election if the internal wrangling is sorted out, revealing that stakeholders across board are working round the clock to ensure that it is resolved amicably .

In his words, Mba Nwoko said, “Labour has enough followership in Ohafia. Ohafia has not had it so good like this as two of her indigenes, the Deputy Governor and the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa are from Ohafia, insisting that Ohafia people will repose the confidence Governor Otti has in them by voting for LP all the way in the forthcoming LG polls.

Mba Nwoko who noted that the people of Ohafor Ward are law abiding people, also urged his people to continue suing for peace in Ohafia, saying that dividends of democracy can only be enjoyed in an atmosphere of peace, expressing optimism that the party despite the crisis is ready for the forthcoming LG polls.

He also scored Governor Otti high in the area of education, refurbishment of Amachara Specialist Hospital, road infrastructure, among others, expressing optimism that at the end of Governor Otti’s four years tenure, the state would have recorded huge success in all facets of the economy.
