The Abia State Government has reaffirmed that it will continue to be responsive to the plights of the people.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna who gave the assurance while inspecting the ongoing remedial flood and erosion work at Ozuzu Agbama Autonomous Community in Umuahia South LGA, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being done in the area.
He recalled in nostalgia the condition of the area and how some people abandoned their buildings due to the threat of the gully and flood, expressing happiness that they have returned home since the state government started work in the area.
Mr Ogbonna hinted that the work will be completed within the next one month, saying that the remedial work at Umumukwu Nkata Ibeku, Umuobia Housing Estate, Correctional Centre Umuahia have all been completed, while work will soon commence at the site in Isuikwuato.
On her part, the Special Adviser to the governor on Environment, Prof. Ijeoma Iheukwumere and Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change and Sustainability, Esther Chioma Aja, described the massive work being done by the present administration as evidence of purposeful leadership and urged the communities to protect the projects by refraining from blocking the drains.
Reacting to the development the traditional Ruler of Agbozu Agbama Autonomous Community, Eze Ifeanacho, conveyed the community’s appreciation to the governor for heeding their call to carry out erosion and flood remedial work in the area.
Eze ifeanacho explained that government intervention in the area has brought hope to the people whose property are being destroyed by the gully and flood, describing what the state government is doing at the site as the first of its kind in the area.
